Birth of a Bud

This design was part of a stage presentation given at AIFD (American Institute of Floral Designers) Southern Conference. The theme for the conference was Botanical Art -- this piece was for a program on "Spring."

In this composition, I wanted to explore spring from the perspective of the dormant branches -- imagining the discomfort that may be associated with all the young buds pushing through the thick bark.

This was a study in textures and contrasts --the tender young buds (actually composite buds) against the rough surface of the bark. The curly tylandsia (air plants) and spiky Australian ferns are used to represent the effects of the buds bursting through the tough exterior of the branch.

"Zebra" screen

Jamie's Bat Mitzvah --
Jamie wanted to use a "Night Club" theme for her special event with zebras as one of the motifs. We created these zebra-influenced designs on 6' customized screens with black mitsumata branches onto which we attached these fabulous gerber daisy orbs. In the Night Club, the screens separated the various rooms in the lounge area.

This is just one of many possibilities for floral screens!

Welcome to Floral Innovations!

Formerly Joyous Creations Floral Design, Floral Innovations was conceived to focus more on innovative floral concepts and floral art pieces. We still create unique designs for social and corporate events, but we also create customized floral structures for homes, restaurants and offices. Photos of these structures and ideas on how to display flowers on them will be posted periodically.
